In mid-June 1977 the Israeli freighter Yuvali took 66 Vietnamese refugees aboard in the South China Sea. Contemporaneous JTA dated the rescue 9 June; a later reconstruction dates it 10 June. The group reached Israel on 27 June after Menachem Begin offered asylum.
On this day, May 11, 1960, Israeli agents captured Adolf Eichmann near Buenos Aires. He was tried in Jerusalem in 1961 and hanged in 1962.
On this day, February 19, 2016, Samuel Willenberg, a survivor of Treblinka and of its 1943 revolt, died in Israel at 93.
